Day 27 on the Medical Medium Protocol – Epic Battle with the Monster Caterpillar
I’ve been totally enjoying my garden this summer. I love gardening and growing vegetables. But there’s one thing I don’t like on my vegetables — bugs and caterpillars.
This evening, I encountered a big green caterpillar on my tomato plant in the garden.
He was huge!
Earlier this morning, he had stripped a full branch of the tomato plant of all leaves, flowers and buds and left only ugly stems. Now he was ‘mowing the green’ on another branch. He was about half way through, and I couldn’t let him eat it all!
I grabbed him and yanked him off the branch with my index finger and thumb. He gripped with the strength of cat’s claws! I yanked him again even harder. He instantly whipped around and bit me — or tried to bite me!
I didn’t know caterpillars bit people!
He wasn’t very successful. His teeth aren’t made to puncture skin — but he kept trying. What a feisty critter! And what strength!
Looking at the devastation he wrought upon the tomato plant, it occurred me that this green crawler must eat at least five times his weight in greens every day! No, probably ten times!
And I thought WE were eating a lot of greens!
We ARE eating a lot of greens, but this guy has us beat! Humans don’t come close to eating that much green leafy matter.
And what was his preferred food?
Tomatoes — leaves and fruit. Which leads me to believe that the tomato plant is a very healthy, life-giving plant from leaves to fruit, in spite of what some people say.
Moral of the story: if you get tired of eating fruits and vegetables, even if you feel you are eating tons, its nothing compared to how much a caterpillar eats – and look how fast the caterpillar grows and how strong it is! Not to speak of the gorgeous butterfly it becomes.
So be like the caterpillar — eat your spinach, tomatoes, and kale!
Maybe you’ll turn out gorgeous, too! (Or more gorgeous than you already are)!
