Day 10 on the Medical Medium Protocol – I Just Didn’t Get It
I have a confession to make. When I first looked the Medical Medium protocol diet over in the book, I didn’t get it. I couldn’t see how it was different than any other strange detox diet — and there are plenty of those!
When I looked at the strange combinations of foods, I wondered what the reasoning behind them was.
I could hardly take Anthony’s idea of a “balanced” meal seriously. After all, he’s talking about an apple, a celery and a date! That is not a snack you’ll find in any diet book, cookbook, dietician’s meal plan or doctor’s orders!
Apparently, it provides the right balance of sodium, potassium, and glucose. Anthony’s idea of “balanced” was certainly different from anything I had ever heard of before.
Further in the book, Anthony says that if you are constantly thirsty and can’t seem to quench your thirst, you need to replenish your electrolytes by drinking something with right balance of sodium, potassium, and glucose. Things like coconut water, freshly pressed apple juice, freshly pressed celery juice, or celery/apple or celery/cucumber juice blend.
I have to admit, for the last 10 years or so, I was always thirsty and couldn’t seem to quench my thirst no matter how much water I drank. Every summer evening, a few hours after dinner, I had to have some melon or cantaloupe (or other juicy fruit) to quench the dryness in my throat.
That all stopped once I started the Medical Medium’s detox diet. For the first time I can remember, I feel hydrated most of the time (except early in the morning when I’m very thirsty).
But back to my first point — there was no way of knowing if this detox would be effective at all, let alone knowing how powerful this combination of foods would be. There was no way of grasping how effective the order and timing of the foods would be.
I soon discovered that there is a beautiful synergy between the foods and combinations that defies logic … and it certainly defies human understanding.
Saying all that, let’s get back to matters of the stomach. Today was the first day I felt hungry. I was hungry before lunch and the following snack-time. I really longed for a piece of chicken with my salad.
But once I ate my lunch salad, I was satiated and my hunger subsided.
Talking about salad — it is so nice to be able to go out to my garden and pick fresh Romaine lettuce leaves every day! I started a batch in the fall in pots and they have been small all winter since it was a cold, wet one. But they have been growing nicely for a couple of months, and are now quite tasty.
Until now, I didn’t have any interest in other foods because I was at the point where nothing was digesting. Everything I ate upset my stomach and bloated me terribly (I must have been very low in hydrochloric acid). I was ready to take a break.
I’m surprised I’m hungry for normal food so quickly. I thought it would take weeks. Could the celery juice have improved my digestion so fast?
Otherwise, I’m feeling a little tired today, and I’m getting waves of discomfort in my head and stomach. Luckily, they clear up quickly.
