Day 11 on the Medical Medium Protocol – The Questions That Come Up
A friend called today to ask me some questions about the detox protocol. She had been planning on going on a juice fast in a few days, but heard me talk about Anthony William and his detox diet, and was wondering if she should do this instead.
She had skimmed Anthony’s book, Medical Medium, Secrets Behind Chronic and Mystery Illness and How to Finally Heal, but didn’t take the time to read it very well and had a lot of questions:
- “Do I have to get only organic fruits and vegetables?”
- “What do you eat in a day and in what order?”
- “Eat dates?!? Aren’t they too rich, too sweet, and… processed?”
- “Don’t you get hungry only eating THAT?”
- “Why is Anthony so against fats? So many healers and nutritionists are encouraging the consumption of more fat these days. I don’t know who to believe.”
- Is this is better than a juice fast?
- “Isn’t the lack of protein for 28 days going to create problems?”
That’s a lot of good questions.
So what were my answers? Here they are:
Q. What do I eat in a day and in what order?
While on the 28-day detox, I start my day with a whole lime squeezed into a glass of water. Thirty minutes later, I drink freshly juiced celery juice. About 30-40 minutes later, I have my smoothie, consisting of two or three bananas, a good amount of kale, about 1/2 a cup of cilantro, a cup of frozen blueberries, and a couple of dates.
A couple of hours after that, I eat a couple bananas, and either a celery and a date, or fresh blueberries or another fruit and a date. Sometimes, I have sprouts and a date. (Anthony recommends another smoothie, but I can’t drink another smoothie so soon after the first one, so I eat the bananas instead).
A couple of hours after that, I eat a big salad (my favorite meal of the day) with orange juice/avocado or orange juice/guacamole dressing (its good). I just LOVE fresh salad with lots of crisp cucumbers, preferably from my own garden.
A couple of hours after that, I eat an apple, a celery stalk or two and a date, or celery stalks and a date and any other fruit I have on hand, like Asian pears, melon, organic grapes, figs, etc.
A couple of hours after that, I have dinner. Dinner is a blended cold “soup” of tomatoes, spinach, some orange juice, cilantro and garlic.
Usually, I have one more fruit snack before bed. I may or may not have a stalk of celery or a date with it.
Q. Eat dates?!? Aren’t they too rich, too sweet, and processed?
Not al all. They are all-natural dried fruits that are very nutritious and not processed at all unless you buy the kind that are chopped up and mixed with other ingredients… or stuffed with cream cheese, or rolled in sugar, chocolate, marzipan, or something similar (don’t do that!).
Even with non-organic dates, you can get the non-GMO kind with no preservatives.
As sweet as they are, dates naturally contain only the natural, healthy glucose type of sugars — no added sugar. They are also loaded with fiber, vitamins and minerals (i.e., vitamin-A, the antioxidants ß-carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin, iron, potassium, calcium, manganese, copper, magnesium, the B-complex group of vitamins as well as vitamin-K and more).
So eating those super-sweet, super-rich tasting, super-chewy dates is not an indulgence, its super good for you!
Q. Do I have to eat only organic fruits and vegetables?
Anthony recommends all organic, and it makes total sense to do that for your health. But I can’t always get organic, and/or it’s too expensive. So, I don’t only eat organic. When I can get organic at a reasonable price, I get it.
When I don’t get organic, I put my produce through an ozone process. I have a great little ozone machine that I run in a large bowl of water for about 5 minutes, then add the veggies or fruit, and ozone everything for 10 more minutes. I hope its at least pulling out some of the pesticides or contaminants that are there.
I also have a clever little gadget from Russia that puts out frequencies that remove harmful chemicals, pesticides and contaminants, as well as common food pathogens and also purifies water. It seems to work well. It’s even easier to use than the ozone machine.
Q. Do you use the stems of the cilantro, or only the leaves?
I use the whole thing — stems and leaves. The stems are full of nutrients, so why not get the most out of them.
Q. Don’t you get hungry during the day?
Not really. As long as I eat on time and keep a steady flow of glucose to my brain, I don’t get hungry. Yesterday was the first day I felt like I would have liked a piece of chicken with my salad. But once I ate all the salad, I was satiated and didn’t think about chicken anymore.
Q. Why is Anthony William so against fats? So many healers and nutritionists are encouraging the consumption of more fat these days. I don’t know who to believe.
He’s not totally against fats. Its just that when a person has EBV and/or not enough hydrochloric acid in the stomach, their digestion is compromised. He/she can’t digest the fats (or the protein and carbs) properly and it causes problems.
Even normally, the body uses a lot of energy to digest — practically all of it’s energy. When it is digesting heavy foods, there is little energy left over for healing and to fight off viruses. During this detox, you want the body to focus on healing above all else.
Not eating fats is a temporary measure. After you’ve completed the 28-Day Cleanse, you can add coconut oil (great oil for the brain), more avocado (full of good fats), almonds, some olive oil, hemp seeds, and other healthy fats.
To be clear, Anthony does not recommend a diet heavy with animal protein, because that causes problems for everybody. However, a moderate amount of lean protein is fine.
Q. Isn’t the lack of protein for 28 days going to create problems?
Anthony says that the fruits and vegetables (especially the leafy greens) in this cleanse have the most bioavailable protein. So if you eat the salads, you’ll be OK. It feels like enough for me for a while.
Remember, the the 28-Day Cleanse is a temporary detox. Its not forever. Once your digestion recovers and the EBV is under control, you can go back to eating lean protein like turkey, chicken and fish. Chicken actually has a high percentage of fat, so its best eaten moderately.
Q. Is this is better than a juice fast?
I’ve found that the specific combination of these foods really gets in deep and detoxes the body far better than any other detox I have been on. A juice fast is good, but in my experience, its just not as effective. Its not as sustainable, either. You can stay on a modified version of the 28-Day Cleanse indefinitely and be better nourished than eating a typical diet. I’m not sure you would get that with a juice fast.
My Daily Detox Protocol Progress Report:
I felt great this morning and afternoon — good energy and a bounce to my step. All of a sudden, in the evening, my legs stiffened up and my head started to pulsate. Then my head started aching.
I was suddenly exhausted and wanted to go to bed, but it was really too early. Luckily, it only lasted a couple of hours, and then I felt OK again.
